BLACKBRIDGEOFF, Beijing, 13.06. – 20.06.2010
刘文涛 Liu Wentao/ 马葭 Ma Jia/ 王光乐 Wang Guangle/ Martin Wehmer/ Eddie Weki/ 闫冰 Yan Bing/ 杨心广 Yang Xin Guang/ 张新军 Zhang Xin Jun/ Anna Hofbauer
curated by Anna Hofbauer
YES AND NO / ONE IS LIKE THE OTHER refers to two aspects of the exhibition: First, an attempt to soften the opposition between painterly and sculptural practice. Secondly, a linguistic approach to art practice, with which, as in language, ambiguities can be easily created by rearranging and connecting elements that we often find difficult in material reality.
It involves the act of dissecting the wholeness of a work of art.
Each visual element that makes up the work is meaningless in itself and equal to the others. In this sense, there is no hierarchy or relationship between yes and no / green and red / thread and wood. And yet we put them together because we need a relationship.
The same is true for the different artworks as parts of the group show.
– one is like the other, and yet, in the arrangement, relationships and distinctions emerge.
